So I just back from my trip back home to Los Angeles, and I can't believe I was even considering moving back there from Atlanta. The only thing Los Angels has that Atlanta doesn't have is my family. Now i understand that family is important and i defiantly miss out on most big family events BUT Atlanta has that laid, back, cool, small town, big city, swagger that I have fallen in love with. I have to face the fact that I am not a Los Angeles resident any more....I now call Atlanta, GA home, at least for now anyway...maybe my next move will be Phoenix, AZ or maybe Sacramento, CA. Or maybe Atlanta is where I will permanently call home. i have no clue where I will move or IF i will move but I love having the freedom of having options.

I am counting down the days until I go on vacation to Los Angeles to see my family and friends. I need them so much right now. I just got a new niece Naima Faith Galbreath that I can't wait to hold in my arms. My brother is an excellent father to a little boy..Malachi, but I can't wait to see how he deals with being father to a girl. He is TOAST...and seeing how I am going to convice her that she is a DIVA IN TRAINING she is gonna have him wrapped around her pinky.

My company just cut out my overtime so every day is a financial struggle. I just wish I was completely numb. I am constantly fighting with the water company and GA power its a little too much to handle sometimes. Like I said, I wish I were numb...VOID inside - so I wouldn't be in so much pain.

Maybe a margarita will help.

I finally made through an entire treatment of Tysabri...and just in the nick of time because they were close to taking me of it. Thanks to all my friends and family for keeping me in their prayers.

A little update, I totaled my car 2 weeks ago...but fortunately I had GAP INSURANCE witch really helped. I was scared i was gonna be upside down on my loan. So I got another damn Ford Focus.

FYI -- I haven't blogged in awhile because I have been addicted to Twitter and Facebook.

It's been a bad day

I just found out today that I may not be able to continue my treatment for my multiple sclerosis. Why?? Because the treatment is making me sick. Last month during treatment I got sick and vomited all over myself, and today during treatment I got severe chest pains that they had to stop my treatment again. I am pissed because I loved the treatment and it took me so long to get approved for it. I am sort of at my wits end today. It's getting harder and harder to walk around with a smile on my face, hell its getting harder and harder to walk at all.

I find it interesting that I usually think of blogging every year. My last blog entry was almost exactly a year ago today. If you have been following by blog you know that I am a BIG Obama supporter, and I am elated that he has won the election. I am blessed that I the foesight to start planning my trip to Wash DC for the inauguration right after he won the democratic primary. I am so excited that I have been apart of history. The very first day be announced that he was running for president I dedicated almost 2 years of my life doing all I could to help this man spread his message of CHANGE. My dedication doesn't stop now -- It's only just beginning. I feel like an AMERICAN for the first time in my life and his win brings me tremendous reponsibility.

Another major development is I am no longer employed and GATech...which isn't entirely a bad thing because I now have a great job as a contract administrator for a construction company that is very close to working with family. But I am realizing that it is very difficult to get health insurance with a small company when you have diabetes and multiple sclerosis. I was very concerned about my health care coverage because I just started new treatment for my MS which is similar to chemotherapy -- TYSABRI. I have felt great since I've started this treatment ( which cost $5063 per monthly visit ). I was blessed to qualify for financial aid for this program which means my dosage is free for 2 years -- and I only have to pay for the infusion which is $570 per month....after researching more financial aid options I was able to get the $570 a month down to $270 a month -- and after further discussion with my employer he agreed to pay for half the treatment which now has me out of pocket $135 a month ( much - much better than $5063).

So a year to the day...I am still walking...and my faith is still strong! I have a list of THANK YOU'S because there are a select few that know the bullshit I have indured in my life this past year....

Kelly -- You are truly my brother from another mother and father). You came into my life when I was so low and you lifted my soul from darkness. Please know that I will always be thankful to you for that, and I will always be there for you like you were there for me.
Scott -- You are my protector and my rock. You make me smile when all I want to do is cry, and you are agressive and strong in areas where I am weak. I hope u know that I am here for you.
Craig -- Thank you for keeping me connected to the rest of the world. GO OBAMA!
Yvette, Deborah, Leslie and Kathyn -- You ladies are true DIVAS Thank You for checkin' in on me .

Today I am another year older, 38, and this is usually the time that I sit back and reflect on what has happened to me, and for me this year. So 2007 has been one hell of a year! I was diagnosed with Diabetes AND Multiple Sclerosis, I decided to go back to school and finish my degree at GSU, finally, I started work on the Barack Obama for President campaign. I also paid off my car managed to put money into a savings account to buy a home. I love being 38 (and can't to when I turn 40! )

It's official..I am mentally, physically, and emotionally EXHAUSTED. I really have to sit down and analyze what I am honestly capable of doing with multiple sclerosis. I have work, school, the Obama campaign and I am trying to lose weight before my brother's wedding! I run around all day and half the night, by the time I try to go to bed i am so hyped that I don't fall asleep until 3am...then I am up at 6:00 am to start the day all over again. My schedule has been so busy that I haven't had time to do my weekly injections, now I am afraid that I have pushed my body to the point of no return.

Ben Turner is too young to vote, but he wasn't too young to sign up for "Camp Obama" this weekend.

Turner, 17, a Southwest DeKalb High School junior, is among about 185 people from Georgia and several other states taking part in a weekend "camp" at Morris Brown College designed to teach them how to organize grassroots campaigns for presidential aspirant and U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.

Turner was motivated to learn political organizing skills in part by problems at his high school, which he said has had malfunctioning air conditioning and crowded classes despite promises that improvements would be made.

"I've got to learn how to organize, not only for Obama, but for when something needs to be done in my own community," said Turner, who hopes to one day study law.

He said the senator offers a message of hope and change, which inspired him to become active.

"For me, Barack Obama is a symbol of what's to come, of an entire movement," Turner said. "Just like MLK [Martin Luther King Jr.] was a symbol for the civil rights movement, Barack Obama is a symbol of his movement."

Campaigns for president have been organizing volunteer groups across the country for months, working particularly hard in the states with early primary tests next year. With states moving up their primaries in hopes of gaining more say in the outcome, such efforts have also been sped up.

Obama has been hot in Atlanta, where he drew an estimated 20,000 to a rally in April. However, a mid-July poll by InsiderAdvantage, an Atlanta Internet media and polling firm, had him second behind Hillary Clinton among likely Democratic primary voters in Georgia.

Officials for the Obama campaign say they received more than 350 applications to take part in the training camp here. Similar training sessions have taken place in other locations, including Illinois and California.

Trista Allen, Southern region field director for the campaign, said the volunteers will leave the camp today ready to organize Obama efforts in their congressional districts.

Beyond the typical discussion of canvassing for votes and phone banks, the volunteers will be prepared to hold meetings with other people who have already e-mailed or phoned the campaign wanting to get involved, she said.

The volunteers at "Camp Obama" developed mission statements and talked about the kind of skills they can bring to the campaign. They also talked about what motivated them.

Ben Arnon, 31, a digital music executive from Los Angeles, flew to Atlanta to take part after missing a similar camp in Southern California.

Arnon is an Emory University graduate and said he enjoys coming back to the area.

"I felt like for this kind of event, when it's all about community organizing and grassroots movements, that there is no better place to be learning about this stuff than right here in Atlanta, at the AU Center," he said. "This is really where the heart of the civil rights movement really took place."

Arnon said he was inspired by Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic convention. "I think he is really interested in uniting the country," he said. "We also need a change in how we are perceived overseas, and he definitely has the skills to change the perception of America."

Kathyn Brown, 44, an Atlanta hospital medical assistant who runs a health care business on the side, said she gave up $500 in potential earnings this weekend to take part.

"I like everything about [Obama]. I like his family, I like his values, I like his views. I want to get him into the White House any way possible," she said.

Brown said she has read Obama's books and gone online to read his speeches.

"His story speaks to me," she said. "I have never worked on a campaign before in my life. No one has ever motivated me enough."

It's been a BAD, MS weekend

So I decided to take my Avonex injection on Friday night instead of Saturday night so that I could enjoy my weekend. So I give myself the injection at about 7pm, I pop a few Tylenol PM and settle in for my evening of flu-like symptoms. Just like clockwork I was good and sick 6 hrs later. I ended up being good and achy most of Saturday and to make matters worst I have this sever pain in my torso. I am hoping and praying this pain goes away real soon because I simply don't have the $45 or time required for my 3-day steroid treatment! I am not happy, the pain is making me grouchy and patience with my son I wearing thin this weekend.

Back to School

I have a confession to make.....I never finished college. Yes, its true - I dropped out of college only 10 units shy of my degree completion! I can give you a shit load of excuses ... my separation from the hubby, becoming a single parent, money....but the real reason is LAZINESS!

Well, I have decided to take my ass back to school and complete my degree. I am changing my major from business to sociology so I realize that I may lose some units AND I am 37 yrs old, so I also realize that I am not longer a youngin' and that I will be involved in class discussions with 18 - 25 year olds. But after all the drama I've been through this year those challenges ain't shit!

So what I need now is money for books, a new laptop (a small cute MAC would be nice), and a pink backpack.

I am taking donations.

Now it's Multiple Sclerosis

Well, first was told that I have type 2 diabetes NOW they are telling me that addition to the diabetes I also have Multiple Sclerosis. WTF!!!!???? How did this all happen? Well it’s best just to start at the beginning. A little over a month ago I started to feel some numbness in both my toes (I blogged about it here at my diabetes blog), so I go to the doctor to have the numbness examined. After many tests they told me that I was a diabetic and I was immediately put on Metformin. A month goes by, I still have the numbness in my feet, but I also started to feel numbness in my tongue that soon turned to numbness on the entire right side of my face - imagine going to the dentist and getting a shot of novacane that never where’s off. I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t taste my food. YIKES! So I decide I should go to the hospital.

When I first get there they treat me like a stroke patient because the symptoms are the same. But after a MRI of my brain it was determined that I had several lesions in my brain that were attacking my nerves. The neurologist needed me to stay in the hospital for several more tests and steroid treatment. All in all I ended up being there SIX DAYS!!! When I was finally released the end result was a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. I still have the nerve damage in my face and my speech is still slightly slurred. I have to attend speech therapy and classes on how to inject myself with Rebif (the medication that is suppose to keep the Multiple Sclerosis under control). I tell people that I am a tough chick - but quite honestly…this shit has me scared.

Back from the West Coast

I have returned from my vacation in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. I laughed, I cried, I had a great time. I attended my cousin Janine's wedding and it was beautiful! It was good to have the family finally get together for a happy occasion. We have had three funerals in three years. It's time for some happy times. There is so much to say about this trip home to la la land BUT honestly, it just too damn much to type right now. For the family members reading my blog I just want to say....I LOVE YA'LL but next time you all are gonna have to haul your asses to Atlanta, My cross country trips are making me exhausted (( and BROKE!!!).

ObamaRama in Atlanta

This week has been a world-wind for those of us that volunteer for Barack Omaba's presidential campaign here in Atlanta. We found out Monday that he will be in Atlanta on Saturday, and just my luck...he will be at Georgia Tech (my place of employment - Yipee!). Yesterday we spent half the evening making signs for the rally (let me apologize in advanced to anyone that happens to get a sign made by me..YIKES). I also found out yesterday that the members of Obama's campaign from Illinois were in need of a press area for Saturday's rally, and as luck would have it, my office happens to be the best location (Yipee!). And my office is also the closest bathroom location so if the Senator feels compelled to relieve himself ...I am right there...LOL (ok, so I am pushing my luck here).

Needless to say the primaries in 2008 will be exciting and so will the presidential election. As far as I am concerned there is no other presidential decision in my eyes but Senator Barack Obama. He is truly a candidate for the people and could very well change the way the United States does business---from dishonest to honest, from for the politicians to for the people that have elected them.

How you callin' a Ho??!

Whew! With the last minute announcement that Barack Obama will be in Atlanta, I almost forgot to blog about the Don Imus "nappy-headed ho" DRAMA! The best question to ask here is what on earth made him think he had the right to disrespect our young, educated, articulate, and beautiful black women? Many in the media are making attempts to blame rap music for his action...WRONG!!! Don't get me wrong, I feel the way rap music and black media in general objectifies and demeans black women, but I have to save that for a later blog, it has nothing to do with this asshole.

The reason he feels he had to right to demean these women is quite simple...because HE is WHITE and they are BLACK. The white media has this sense of entitlement that makes them feel they have the right to demean races that they consider less valuable than their own race. We see it in the white controlled media everyday, when an white bride is missing there is NATIONAL attention, when a black bride is missing NOTHING, when a white child is missing there is NATIONAL attention, when a black child is missing NOTHING. When a white murder needs to be solved, there is NATIONAL attention when a black murder needs to be solved, NOTHING. It all relates to the mentality that the white media has create (and unfortunately the black population fallen into the trap set for them) that some how the life of a white person is more valuable that the life of someone black, that they feel that they can demean and call us nappy-head hos because we a less than human, that it doesn't matter how much education we have, how rich we are.

Wedding Bells...

I've been so busy and still not busy enough (if that makes any sense). The first update (and the most exciting) is that fact that my brother has asked his girlfriend Melissa to marry him. They drove to beautiful Santa Barbara, CA and on a majestic mountain side my brother got down on one knee and asked Melissa to be his wife (wow, I am getting choked up just typing this).

Now, I have to say my brother has had two long-term girlfriends prior to Melissa, Kolini - Who I loved like a sister, but my brother being immature at the time cheated on her constantly, and Meghan - who I didn't like BUT I still love because she is my nephew's mother. But I have to say, when I first Melissa I knew she was THE ONE for my brother. She is beautiful, honest, and just REAL. She was just a good fit into our family from day one. She doesn't take my brother's shit, she is fun to hang out with, and she knows how to get crazy with my crazy ass family. I met her mother and father of Thanksgiving (they are from Wisconsin) and they showered my nephew with gifts, they drank booze with my family, it seemed like they were family already. I am so excited to have her as a future sister-in-law and I can't wait until they start having babies (( I would like to put in my request for a niece please....we have too many lil' boys in this family)). Congratulations you two. I love you!

Perhaps the saddest fact associated with this historic atrocity is that the U.S. government and local media were complicit in the death and destruction.

It later expanded its web of hate to include, Jews, Catholics, foreigners and gays. The Klan’s usual tools of destruction are terrorism, intimidation and perpetuation of ignorance.

5. Apartheid
South Africa’s brutal system of racial segregation, enforced by the White Afrikaner population for nearly five decades, apartheid finally ended in 1994. But it took a string riots, murders and martyrs – in addition to mounting pressure from the United States and other nations to label South Africa a pariah – to force the racist regime’s hand. In a true reversal of circumstances, Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s most powerful symbol of resistance to apartheid, ascended from longtime political prisoner to president of the troubled nation.

4. Religion
The fact that both Christianity and Islam condoned slavery is an undeniable stain on organized religion. But on the flip side, Quakers and others who believed that slavery was blight on humanity, manned the Underground Railroad and waxed eloquently against its evils. In addition, the Black community’s faith in a better society carried it through the throes of inequality.

If it is a biological weapon, it’s a brilliant one. What else has the power to begin emptying out the continent of Africa while wiping out the Black inner-cities of America? There are more than 40 million AIDS orphans in Africa; in the United States, Black Americans, who comprise only 13 percent of the U.S. population account for more than 40 percent of all AIDS cases.

Crack, heroin, cocaine and alcohol are the most efficient ways to undermine the Black family, Black progress and Black ambition. They are far more effective in destroying Black folks than lynchings .

I think TIME Magazine couldn't have said it better when they used the quote from All About Eve..."Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy night." There is still another year of democratic campaigning to go before the Democrats has an official runner for the presidency yet already the DRAMA is unfolding.
How dare Clinton DEMAND that the money raised by David Geffen for Obama's campaign be returned! Just who does she think she is? That is the political bullying that I would expect from a Republican...NOT a fellow Democrat. I am so proud that Obama stood his ground. He shouldn't be held responsible for his supporters reasons for backing him. David Geffin feels the Clintons are liars...that's his opinion and he has every right to it. But how the hell does that make Obama responsible? I just don't see how the two relates.

Even by the legendary rapid-response standards of a Clinton operation, what followed was extraordinary. Her campaign issued a statement demanding that Obama denounce Geffen, banish him from the campaign and return his money. Obama's campaign quickly fired back with a statement declaring it "ironic that the Clintons had no problem with David Geffen when he was raising them $18 million and sleeping at their invitation in the Lincoln Bedroom." Then the Obama spokesman upped the ante: "It is also ironic that Senator Clinton lavished praise on Monday and is fully willing to accept today the support of South Carolina state senator Robert Ford [an African American], who said if Barack Obama were to win the nomination, he would drag down the rest of the Democratic Party because 'he's black.'" That drew yet another round from Team Clinton: "How can Senator Obama denounce the politics of slash and burn yesterday while his own campaign is espousing the politics of trash today?" As for Geffen, he did what few people in public life ever do: he refused to scurry. He issued a statement that his comments were quoted accurately and "reflect solely my personal beliefs."

Her attack on Obama showed that she is not as confident as she appears to be, and quite frankly I am disappointed. Because as a democrat if (and that's a VERY BIG IF) Obama were to lose the democratic election then Clinton would have certainly gotten my vote. Now I am not so sure.

So I am watching Oprah last week and they start to talk about "The Secret". Naturally I am intrigued.....Does Oprah have "the secret" to being rich, to being skinny, to being happy? I MUST WATCH THIS SHOW. I tune in and low and behold I see the panel discussing what I have been practicing most of my adult life... Soka Gakkai Buddhism. Of course they gave it a new and fancy name (Law of Attraction) but in theory it is all the same. KARMA.

Everything that happens to you (good or bad) you attracted to yourself. KARMA.

So I guess you can say that I am going to do a little "blog catch-up here". It's a new year and I have new goals, dreams and aspirations. One of which is creating NewKarma for myself. I was just talking with a friend (FRED), and he asked why I felt I had to change my Karma..."Did something bad happen?" he asked. NO, that's just it! Good things are always happening to me and I've never taken the time to show my gratitude to Buddhism and chanting for getting me through my hard times. Creating NewKarma isn't always about keeping bad things from happening, sometimes it's about showing appreciation for the good.

Last year I lost my Auntie Ruth, but losing her has brought me closer to my entire family, cousins that I used to only talk to at family outings. Last week I was down to my last $20 and I found an $100 bill on the ground (dayum the person who lost it must have had some BAD Karma..LOL). The list of good fortunes that happens to me could go on and on. I don't have great wealth...but I have my health. I don't have the LOVE of my LIFE but I have great friends and family. I am not skinny BUT I have great tits! Trust me...the list is endless (smile).

So it's time to stop complaining about what I DON'T have and start embracing what I do. Writing this blog is helpful. It helps me truly put things into perspective and it helps me to take the time to be thankful for the things I have and show my gratitude for them.
